OPAL Community Land Trust  -  Madrona Street Cottages
Inspired by the designs of Washington Architect Ross Chapin, the Madrona
Street Cottages represent an example of affordable construction with
aesthetic appeal.  These homes, guaranteed to be permanently affordable
and available to island residents, are the result of a collaborative design/build
process.

They feature design and construction elements that incorporate materials
with a long life-cycle and a focus on environmentally conscious building
practices.  While densely located on a small lot, the site design as well as the
house layout work together to give the homeowners a feeling of small
neighborhood appeal.

Reddick Offices and Apartments

The Reddick project resulted in the delivery of seven apartments aimed at
lower income residents as well as providing offices for OPAL, Eastsound
Water Users Association and additional office and conference space.

The focus of the project is the historical farm-house which sits at the front
corner of the site.  The new house was built as a replica of the 100 year old
Reddick Family farmhouse that was not repairable.  The new structure
incorporates all of the original exterior design features including covered
porches, colonial siding and simple trim patterns.

This project represents Terra Firma’s first work with OPAL and has led to
Terra Firma’s dedication to working in every way possible to help guarantee
affordable housing to island families.
Perched atop Buck Mountain, this home has one of the most stunning views
available in all of the San Juan Islands.  The home is integrated in to natural
rock outcroppings giving it a feel of being part of the natural environment.

Designed by Architect Fook Weng Chan, the home features extensive use of
fir, maple and natural stone.  In order to give the home an open feel, the
common area becomes part of the exterior by opening folding doors on either
side of the house allowing an unobstructed path form the expansive front
deck to the tranquil courtyard in the back.

Terra Firma is proud to have teamed with Master Builder Rolf Eriksen in the
creation of this amazing home.
